Brückner lines deliver high-quality capacitor films for increasingly diverse requirements
Due to the energy revolution, we are undergoing one of the biggest technological transformations of modern times. Renewable energy from sun or wind is supposed to be stored and made available anytime and anywhere. In the field of power electronics, e.g. in converter technology for photovoltaics, wind power, as well as electric vehicles, capacitors - particularly DC link capacitors - are an essential component for power conversion and supply.
Compared to the previously used ceramic capacitors, film capacitors make increased use of BOPP films as dielectrics. This capacitor film made of polypropylene is primarily characterized by a low dissipation factor and high dielectric strength. There are limitations, however, especially in the area of thermal stability and energy density.
In general, the fields of application in the mobility and renewable energy sectors become more and more versatile, thus the requirements concerning capacitors are increasing. Reduction of the installation space required with the same capacity as well as rising operating temperatures make manufacturers look for new concepts and further developments.
Our contribution in the field of capacitor foils
In order to meet these more and more varied requirements, we are constantly enhancing our biax line concepts. Together with raw material manufacturers and capacitor producers, we are testing new material concepts and seek ways to increase thermal stability and energy density.
Our LISIM® technology is becoming an increasingly important element in this. Brückner‘s Linear Motor Simultaneous Stretching technology uses linear motors driving clips without mechanical connections. This drive principle guarantees a unique degree of freedom in the manufacture of high-quality, simultaneously stretched films in a fast and flexible production. In the case of capacitor films, it particularly allows for the manufacture of high-quality, thin films below 3µm and the processing of various and also innovative material concepts.
The globally unique LISIM® technology has already been used successfully by leading film manufacturers worldwide for years and has proven the excellent film properties and high reliability of this line system: for various polymers and numerous packaging and high-tech applications.
