Polyethyleneterephtalate (PET) is one of the oldest plastic resins known to the industry. While for a long time it was listed as “technical polymer” it has meanwhile evolved to a commodity in packaging applications. PET sheet for rigid packaging has become a major product, growing at extremely high rates. Therefore the interest in this material as well as in the machinery is very high.
“Rigid Packaging in PET” was one of the topics at the 3rd Malaysian-German Conference on Plastics Technology in Kuala Lumpur early November. Andreas Blin, Product Manager Sales CPP & PET Sheet Lines at Brückner Maschinenbau focused on products, production and critical success factors.
Blin evaluated the basics of PET for rigid packaging, the materials applied and their properties. He also explained different technologies how to extrude and form PET-sheet, looking at technical as well as commercial aspects.
